First Day of Practice Girls 2009 - March 16th, 3:30pm - Fondy Fieldhouse
*All players must have a physical on file. A physical is good for two years if taken after April 1st. The 2nd year of the physical, all players are required to have an alternate year card .
* All players need to bring running shoes, soccer cleats, shinguards, soccer ball, water bottle, and a positive attitude.
* The first day they will run the 2-mile. Players are expected to come to tryouts FIT and ready to play. Our season starts quickly and we cannot afford to get players in shape, they need to prepare in the off-season.
* Players must have passed 5 classes the quarter before soccer, they must have a minimum G.P.A. of 1.4 with no F's, or a 2.0 G.P.A. if they have an F, however they still must have passes 5 classes.
* Boys practices, prior to the start of school, will be from 8:00am to 11:30am.
* Girls practices, the first week, will be indoor from 3:30 - 5:30 in the fieldhouse, unless the weather allows for outside. They should have appropriate clothing for indoor or outdoor practices.
*Physicals are very hard to schedule once the practice starts, make sure you take care of that before practice begins.
TEAM SELECTION
*Tryouts will last 3-4 days. After the tryout period teams will be selected. The varsity roster will range from 18-22 players. The JV roster will range from 18-22 players and the freshman team will try to allow all that tryout to be part of the team. (There are only 22 uniforms so their will be competition for those.)
* Teams will be selected by the coaching staff. The coaches will select teams that will represent Fondy High and accomplish the goals that have been set for the program. Fitness, Attitude, Playing ability, and commitment will be considered. This makes for a highly competitive environment.
* Grades, suspensions, & attitude could factor into the selection process.
PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES
* Compliance with the athletic code.
* Closely attending to all instruction
* Maintain a clean locker room, clean your cleats off outside, and no cleats in the building.

* The teams will have behavior and attendance rules - violations will be dealt with individually by the coach. Players in violation of these rules may face playing time penalties.

* 100% attendance is required.
* Absences are very rarely excused. For each unexcused absence, a minimum 1/2 of a competition is missed.
* Work is not excused.
* School related functions are excused, family vacations are not. If you are gone for an extended period of time others may move ahead of you. This is not a punishment; it is the nature of athletics.

PLAYING TIME
*Varsity - Playing time is determined by the head coach. The coach will make all decisions regarding playing time. Playing time is not a topic that will discussed with parents. Playing time and expectations will be communicated to the players.
*Junior Varsity and Freshman - These levels are looked as developmental by the coaching staff. Every attempt will be given to get all players into the game. Time will be based on practice performance, attitude, and ability. It will also be done in a manner that keeps the game competitive.
AWARDS
*Varsity players with at least 400 minutes of playing time will earn a varsity letter.
* Varsity players who do not reach the 400-minute plateau will be considered based on contribution to the competitive environment in practice.
*Freshman and Junior varsity will have the following awards: Most Valuable, Most Improved, Most Dedicated, Unsung Hero, and Coaches Award. The Varsity will also have Rookie of the Year, and Team Captains.
*All-Conference is chosen by conference coaches.
*Players who have an athletic code violation during the season will not be eligible for post-season awards. They will also not be considered for captaincy.
TRAVEL AND BUS BEHAVIOR
*When traveling, leave class at the assigned time.
*Always conduct yourself with class.
*You are representing Fondy High, the Fond du Lac Community, and the Cardinal Soccer Program when we travel. Conduct yourself accordingly.
*Players ineligible due to athletic code violations will not leave class, but will travel with the team for night or weekend matches.
*Maintain a clean environment.
*Players will ride to matches and home from matches with the team. Excused from this will be at the discretion of the coach. Must be very important to not ride with the team.
MISCELLANEOUS
*Uniforms should be washed at home in cold water and if tumble-dried, only on very low. Warm-ups should be treated with care.
*All players are responsible for equipment and general care.
*All male players will start the tryouts with their hair trimmed short. Coach's discretion.
*On game days, players are required to wear some form of Cardinal soccer apparel, warm-up, t-shirt, etc...
*Teams may have some Spaghetti dinners, this is a practice, players are required to be at these functions unless they clear it with their coach ahead of time.
*There will be an end of the year banquet. It is for all players and parents, please put it on your schedule.
*If you have a concern with a coach, talk with the coach directly first. If you still have a concern after you meet with the coach, call Coach Winkler and set up a face to face meeting. Playing time is based on the needs of the team not the player. Some players may not get much playing time during a competitive season. Your coach can let you know the areas of improvement for the player. Playing time, however, is determined by the coach, based on that coach's assessment of the match conditions and the player's current level of play.
*There is a chain of command in the Cardinal Soccer Program. At all times the player needs to address his/her coach with any concerns. A meeting with a parent will not be a possibility unless the player has met the coach first. Communication is the key here and we will follow those lines of communication.
